Want to see the places I visit for yourself?
My ‘day job’ is as an expedition guide working on small cruise ships (50-200 passengers) travelling to some of the most remote regions in the world. During the northern hemisphere Summer you’ll most likely find me in the Arctic, and in the southern Summer from November to February I usually spend at least two months in Antarctica. In between the two polar seasons, I work all around the world, from Australia’s Kimberley region to the Sea of Cortez and from the Caribbean to the Seychelles.
On these ships, the focus is on discovery, education, and leaving our destinations with a better understanding of their biology, geology and history. As one of between 5 and 20 expedition staff on board, I drive small boats, help guests look for wildlife, and guide landings on distant shores - but first and foremost I view myself as an educator. Expedition trips are full of opportunities to see the world through a new lens - from talks and lectures on board to nature walks where the landscape and its inhabitants all come together to tell a story of how nature works. If I can instil some of my passion for nature and the places we visit to my guests - and maybe teach them something they didn’t know in the process - then I’m a happy man.
Even after more than 5 years on the job, I still sometimes have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming…
I’m proud of the pictures you see on this website and hope that they do justice to the beauty of the natural world; but if you’ve decided that photos just aren’t enough and you’d like to see some of the places I visit for yourself, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch! I’d love to hear from you.
To get an idea of where I’ll be in the next little while, have a look at the schedule below…
“I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been;
Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair.”
